Last week Brandt and I got to see Jon Schmidt in concert. My cousin, Jill, introduced me to his music just last year. For those of you unfamiliar with Schmidt, he is an awesome pianist/composer and describes his style as "New Age Classical." This was one of the funnest things we've done in a long time. He really has an amazing talent at the piano and it was so fun to watch his fingers literally fly across the keys (and he really can play the piano upside down like he's doing in the picture above). Not only that, but he has a great personality and was very entertaining. His parents were in the audience and at one point he brought his dad on stage and had him do a stand-up comedy bit for a few minutes; it was hilarious. After the concert, we waited in line for him to sign our CD and get a picture with him. I was a little bummed it turned out so blurry...but I guess that's what happens when you are crammed in there with the masses trying to get close to him and the teenager we had snapped the picture so fast. Oh well...what do you do.
This concert was Jon's first time playing with a full orchestra (the Teton Chamber Orchestra) and it was so cool. The video below is of him playing "Love Story Meets Viva la Vida;" it's a neat video, but I have to say seeing him perform it live with a full orchestra was AMAZING! He explained that they are still working with Taylor Swift's and Cold Play's labels in order for him to market the song, so in order for him to play it for us legally, he had to stop near the end of "Love Story" and say, "And we will now play 'Viva La Vida' by Coldplay...with a special introduction" and then he kept going. You had to be there, but trust me, it was funny. :)
**On a side note, Brandt found out yesterday that he was accepted to the Master's program at University of Idaho! He's been very nervous waiting to learn his fate, but I just knew he'd get in. Congrats babe! So proud of you!! :)
that would be really fun -- one of my roommates my freshman year always listened to jon schmidt. and, congratulations, brandt! that is so exciting! so will you guys be heading north to moscow soon?
Congrats Brandt!! I love Jon Schmidt. He is so entertaining in concert and I love his music. We may be headed up to Moscow, we are not quite sure?! Is that where you will be?
I don't know about Brandt...but I am not moving to Moscow! :)
He should be able to take his classes online, but some of the classes he wants to take are only offered on campus, so we're still trying to figure everything out. Most likely we'll be staying in I.F. though.
We are the Hines family. A little background: we went to high school together at good ol’ Burley High. We dated off and on throughout high school and graduated in ’04. We bit the bullet in ‘06 and got married and we love our life together. Our marriage is perfect! (ok, not really…but pretty darn close!). Jack came along in October 2011 and he is our pride and joy. The three of us have quite the good time together (you should hang out with us some time...we're a lot of fun!). Life is pretty great!
Brandt
Brandt graduated from Idaho State University in ’09 with his Bachelor’s in Business Management. In December '11, he graduated from University of Idaho with his Master's in Natural Resources (he's a bit of a show off in the education department). He now works for the B.L.M. while pursuing his plethora of hobbies on the side: fly fishing and dreaming about buying a boat being at the forefront. He is usually the life of the party, not by choice, but because he is just so much fun. He's a great husband and father and we're lucky to have him.
Dani
Dani graduated from Idaho State University in ’09 with a Bachelor’s in Dental Hygiene. She currently works in a great dental office part-time and loves it. She loves to read and is always looking for a good book. Cooking used to be one of her hobbies, but Brandt just informed her it has been awhile since she has done anything in that department (he really is a good guy, I promise). Raising Jack is her main hobby now. She has enjoyed learning all this momma business - it's hard work, but so much fun!
Jack
Born in October 2011, Jackers is the big hot shot of the family. He is such a good boy and we love having him around. Honestly, I don't know what we did with our time before he came along. Jack spends his days exploring his world (aka getting into everything!). He's a great eater, but the napping comes and goes. He sure keeps us on our toes, and we wouldn't have it any other way!
